In Netflix’s newest movie adaptation, Mila Kunis plays the role of the “Luckiest Girl Alive.” The film is based on Jessica Knoll’s 2015 novel of the same name, which became a New York Times bestseller, and stars Mila Kunis as Ani FaNelli,
“a sharp-tongued New Yorker” who is content in her own perfect world until a crime documentary that investigates her troubled high school years threatens to destroy it. On September 6th, Netflix unveiled the film’s official trailer.
Although Knoll’s “Luckiest Girl Alive” is a work of fiction, she has admitted on the “Today” show that the novel, which has sold over 450,000 copies, was inspired by her life.
At the age of 15, the author was attacked by three boys at a party, and like the protagonist, Ani, she survived the ordeal. In an interview conducted in March of 2016, Knoll stated, “I knew it the morning that I opened my eyes.
I just felt horrible and violated and I knew it was wrong.” She said, “It was terribly hard to go to school every day. I look back on that year, and all I remember is feeling completely raw,” and she continued, “I felt like an exposed nerve. If you just touched me, I just shriveled up in pain. That’s all I can remember about that year of my life.”
According to “Today,” Knoll detailed the incident in an essay for a newsletter called Lenny that has since been removed. She wrote, “To all the TifAni FaNellis of the world, I know” in her book as a dedication to other people who have survived sexual assault.
Kunis, Bruna Papandrea, Jeanne Snow, Erik Feig, and Lucy Kitada serve as producers for Netflix’s “Luckiest Girl Alive,” which was written by Knoll and directed by Mike Barker. The film will first debut in theatres in September, then on streaming services later this fall.

Knoll wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of The Luckiest Girl Alive because of her connection to the story. For a good portion of the shoot, she was also present. In June 2021, she explained why she chose not to watch certain scenes during filming:
“I wanted everyone to be able to do their job and not feel like my eyes are on them.” “I have complete faith in [filmmaker Mike Barker].”
