Many children of the ’80s and ’90s fondly remember watching The Little Mermaid on the big screen and singing along with Ariel as she made her way to dry land and fell in love with a human prince to the tunes of anthems like “Under the Sea” and “Part of Your World.
” The live-action remake has been in the works for a while, but it gained widespread attention in July 2019 when Disney cast Halle Bailey as Ariel.
The 20-year-old performer and actress stars on Freeform’s Grown-ish and is a member of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle. She is a protégé of Beyoncé.
Another Black Disney princess has been long overdue, according to viewers of The Princess and the Frog and Cinderella with Brandy. Even though I can’t buy my tickets just yet, I can’t wait for the film’s release date to be announced.

When Will The Little Mermaid Be Available?
The Little Mermaid will debut in theatres on May 26, 2023, with a Disney+ premiere expected to follow after the film’s exclusive theatrical window expires (usually 45 days from its release).
The new film was shot from January to July of 2021, so there were some delays, but it is now complete.
There shouldn’t be any problems meeting the May 2023 deadline, but given the history of release date changes, that’s not a guarantee. Although, let’s keep our fingers crossed.
The Live-Action Little Mermaid: What To Expect From The Story
You can assume the plot will not deviate wildly from the source material. The plot will revolve around Ariel, a mermaid princess from the underwater kingdom of Atlantica who is entering her teenage years. She has a pathological fascination with humanity.
Ariel and her buddy Flounder have quite the human artifact collection. King Triton, her father, has ordered that she has no human contact.
Until one day, when Ariel decides to join the surface dwellers to celebrate Prince Eric’s birthday. Eric’s ship is thrown into the water by a sudden storm.

He is saved by Ariel, who later falls in love with him. After serenading him, she walks away.
Ursula promises to turn Ariel human in exchange for her singing voice, and in return, Ariel promises to kiss her within three days.
Finally, she transforms into a human, though she retains her inability to speak. She spends time with Eric and comes close to getting a kiss from him. Because Ursula is jealous of Ariel’s success, she disguises herself as Vanessa and charms, Eric, into thinking she’s the one he should be with.
Then, Ariel makes a determined effort to win back the affection of her prince and destroy Ursula once and for all.
Live Action Performers In ‘The Little Mermaid’
Casting has been completed and production is set to begin at the beginning of 2021. A who’s who of acting talent.
In 2019, Chloe x Halle’s Halle Bailey was officially announced as Ariel, and fans have been eagerly anticipating her performance ever since.
The animated sea creatures Sebastian the Lobster, Flounder the Fish, and Scuttle the Seagull are Ariel’s closest companions. All three roles will be played by A-list actors.
Daveed Diggs will play the Oscar-winning character of Sebastian from “Under the Sea” (Hamilton). Awkwafina, who plays Scuttle, will also appear in another Disney film, Marvel’s Shang-Chi & The Ten Rings, set for release in 2021.
And the young Flounder will be played by Jacob Tremblay, who at 14 is already a critically acclaimed actor for his turn in Room.
Jonah Hauer-King, who was most recently seen in the PBS World War II epic World on Fire, will play Prince Eric, the most important male figure in Ariel’s life. Oscar winner Javier Bardem will play King Triton, Ariel’s father.
It was speculated that Melissa McCarthy would play Ursula, the sea witch. The rumor was true, and Disney has now confirmed that McCarthy will play the famous voice-stealing witch in the remake.

‘The Little Mermaid Trailer
No footage from the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid exists at this time because filming isn’t scheduled to begin until January of 2021.
Disney, however, unveiled the film’s new logo on December 10, 2020, at their annual investor presentation. It looks a lot like the logo from the 1989 movie,
except there are no cartoony characters in it, just the grotto where Ariel and Eric meet and fall in love.
