Bloomington Man Sentenced To 9 Years In Prison

Following the entry of two guilty pleas on Monday, a man from Bloomington was given a sentence of nine years in the Department of Corrections.

Jahni Lyons, who is 20 years old, entered a guilty plea to one count of aggravated violence and one count of aggravated discharge of a handgun.

These counts cover a span of two different cases. In the first accusation, which dates back to February 2022, Lyons is said to have fired a gun in the direction of a person who was fleeing in a car.

In the second case, it was alleged that he struck another individual in August when he was detained at the McLean County Jail.

A guy from Bloomington was given a sentence of nine years in the Department of Corrections on Monday, after entering two guilty pleas earlier in the day.

Jahni Lyons, who is now 20 years old, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated violence and one count of aggravated discharge of a weapon. Both charges stem from the same incident.

These counts encompass a period of time spanning two distinct cases. In the first allegation, which originates from the month of February 2022, Lyons is alleged to have discharged a firearm in the direction of a person who was fleeing in a vehicle.

In the second instance, it was alleged that he struck another person while he was being held in custody at the McLean County Jail in the month of August.

Monday saw the dismissal of two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, one count of unauthorised possession of a credit or debit card, and one offence of mob action. A misdemeanour case accusing a violation of an order of protection was also dropped.

Lyons was given a sentence of seven years in prison for the aggravated discharge. This sentence must be served in its entirety, with credit given for the 364 days that Lyons has already spent behind bars.

Following Lyons’ release from prison, he will be required to serve one year of mandatory supervision.

For the aggravated battery, he was given a sentence of two years in jail, of which he is required to spend 50%, followed by one year of mandatory supervision after his release from prison.

The judge, William Yoder, has ruled that the two sentences must be carried out one after the other.
