According to prosecutors, another suspect has been arrested in connection to the assault of a Jewish man that was caught on tape during a rally near Times Square over two years ago. The incident occurred near the area known as Times Square.
Mohammed Said Othman, 28, was taken into custody on Thursday morning and later arraigned on an indictment in connection to the attack on Joseph Borgen that took place on Broadway near West 49th Street on May 20, 2021.
During the assault, Joseph Borgen was knocked to the ground, punched, kicked, pepper-sprayed, struck with crutches, and assailed with anti-Semitic statements.
According to the indictment, he was charged with first-degree gang assault and third-degree assault as a hate crime. Both of these charges are considered to be violent crimes.
The bond was imposed by Judge Juan Merchan at 75,000 dollars in cash during the arraignment.

The prosecution had asked for a larger bond amount of $200,000 cash, and they wanted Said Othman to hand over his passport as well.
The next time he is scheduled to appear in court is on March 9th.
According to sources inside the police department, an additional individual by the name of Mohammed Othman, who is Said Othman’s younger brother, was earlier arrested in connection with the attack.
Additionally, charges have been brought against Waseem Awawdeh, Mahmoud Musa, and Faisal Elezzi in connection with the crime.
Prosecutors stated that Awawdeh told jail personnel that he did not have any regrets at his arraignment.
He was quoted as saying, “If I could do it again, I would do it again.” “I don’t see any reason why I couldn’t do it again.”
Despite this, the district attorney’s office in Manhattan offered Awawdeh a comfortable plea bargain for a period of six months.

That would be a minor infraction in comparison to the maximum sentence of seven years in prison that he might receive if he were to be found guilty of the accusations, which include attempted assault as a hate crime.
A previous spokeswoman for Bragg’s office supported the deal, arguing that Awawdeh did not begin the attack but rather was the sixth person to participate and fled before it was over. This statement was made in the context of asserting that Awawdeh did not launch the attack.
The spokesman mentioned that Awawdeh is accused of assaulting the victim with his crutch, but that he did not pepper-spray, punch, or kick Borgen, and that he does not have any prior convictions. The spokeswoman also mentioned that Awawdeh does not have any prior convictions.
According to statements made by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to Jewish Insider over the last week, “We do this in all of our cases, a form of tailored justice depending upon a person’s role in the charged offences.”
“We are taking a very close look at the person in question, as well as the crime and the person’s role in the crime,”
On the other hand, the prosecutor continued by saying, “we take these matters extremely seriously.”
This kind of hatred has no business being expressed in Manhattan.
In an interview with The Post that took place one day after the assault took place, Borgen recalled the incident.
