Save The Eagles Day History

Ridgefield Park, New Jersey’s Village of Ridgefield Park is credited with being the birthplace of Save the Eagles Day in 2015.

This day is the culmination of a campaign to protect a pair of nesting bald eagles that are located close to the community. Late in the year 2014, Skymark Development Corp.

of Paramus presented a study in which they argued that there was a potential threat to human health posed by a landfill that was located close to where the eagles nested.

At the very least since 2011, the breeding pair known affectionately as Alice and Al had been found nesting along Overpeck Creek.

The community and the Bergen County Audubon Society organized Save the Eagles Day on January 10, 2015 in response to a proposal made by the developer to find a solution, which included cutting down the tree in which the eagles had made their nest.
