National Oysters Rockefeller Day

In the year 1889, in the well-known kitchen of Antoine’s, Jules Alciatore developed a recipe for baked oysters on the half shell with sauce and bread crumbs. These oysters would later be given the name Oysters Rockefeller.

A meal so decadent that even the chef, Alciatore, admitted, “…I know of no other name rich enough for their richness.”

Although other restaurants offer dishes that are similar to Oysters Rockefeller, the authentic version can only be found at the historic Antoine’s restaurant, which was established in 1840 by Antoine Alciatore, Jules Alciatore’s father.

Alton Brown from the Food Network even mentioned to us on the show Good Eats that Alciatore took the recipe with him to the afterlife. Others have, without much success, attempted to identify the more minute components.

The genuine recipe can only be found within the Alciatore family and at Antoine’s restaurant.
Antoine’s recipe for Oysters Rockefeller has withstood the test of time and won the praise of gastronomic experts. To date, the restaurant has fulfilled more than 3.5 million orders of this dish. Since 1889, the restaurant has given each order a unique number.

Even current customers are given a privileged number that details their place in the annals of Oysters Rockefeller’s long and illustrious past.
