The 80th annual Golden Globe Awards presentation returns to television after a year off. On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the presentation, which will air live on NBC and Peacock, will take place. It will feature several new award categories and several highly anticipated nominations.
The event will begin at 7 pm PT/10 pm ET. The event will take place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles and will be streamed live.
Due to issues with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s nomination and membership policies, the Golden Globes were not broadcast on television in 2022.
However, with the announcement of the comeback this year, HFPA President Helen Hoehne issued a statement in which she said:
We don’t have Ricky Gervais here to make us all feel awkward by telling the truth. Comedian, actor, writer, and director Jerrod Carmichael of the United States of America will play host.
His ability to make people laugh while still making them think critically about contemporary issues is unparalleled.
Helen Hoehne, head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which annually presents the awards presentation, has said, “Jerrod is the specific kind of talent this show demands for to kick off the awards season.”

The Controversy Of Golden Globe Awards
In recent years, the Golden Globes have been plagued by a number of high-profile scandals. Multiple allegations of racism, sexism, and favouritism have been made against the HFPA. Celebrities such as Tom Cruise have returned previously won prizes in protest of the HFPA’s policies.
Even before this all blew up, the Globes had been under fire for decades due to their seemingly influenceable small voting body and lack of transparency.
Brendan Fraser, who is up for an award for his outstanding performance in The Whale, has publicly stated that he will not be attending the Golden Globes this year.
Fraser claims that his career was derailed after Philip Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the time, groped him as they were leaving a luncheon. Even though Berk has refuted the accusations, Fraser is standing by his original statement.
I have more animosity toward the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I do regard for them. No, I refuse to take part. It’s because of how far back our relationships go. In addition, my mom didn’t bring up any hypocrites. Fraser has previously stated, “You can call me a lot of things, but not that.”
