When the new M2 (G87) debuts next month, it will be the last model from BMW M’s performance division to lack electrification.
After months of teasing, an official preview has finally been released showing the return of the sports coupe in an upgraded M Performance Parts configuration. The rear wing centrally positioned exhaust tips, and bronze 1000M wheels are all notable additions.
For car fans, the future M2 will be the ultimate vehicle thanks to its use of the M4’s powertrain in a more manageable package.
In order to not compete with the standard M4, it will inevitably be less powerful than its sibling; around 450 horsepower seems reasonable. It’s possible that a CS and/or CSL could increase the power, but the arrival of more strong derivatives is put off until at least the middle of the decade.
Compared to the M240i and other 2 Series Coupe variants, the most noticeable difference in the teaser photographs is the presence of square air intakes. Flared fenders, a lower ride height, wider tracks, and quad exhaust are just some of the standard M4 changes, along with a new kidney grille with horizontal slats.
M Performance Exhaust With Unique Pipes Layout
The exhaust system, with its triangular titanium pipes and central location in the diffuser, is, of course, still a contentious design choice. M Performance lightweight exhaust system for the G80/G82 M3/M4 features flap control and weighs about five kilogrammes less than normal exhaust.

The redirected exhaust creates a more aggressive roar. The G87 M2 will likely use a very similar setup.
Naturally, a genuine BMW M design will feature the appropriate degree of rake (the angle formed by the vehicle’s profile as seen from the front), swollen rear wheel arches (to emphasise the vehicle’s rear-wheel drive configuration), and quad tailpipes. It would appear that the new G87 BMW M2 has all three of these features.
RWD, 6-Speed And 8-Auto
The smallest M vehicle, like its older sibling the M4, will feature rear-wheel drive. Because BMW will only offer the car with rear-wheel drive (RWD), this will be the primary traction differential between the two. You can choose between a manual and automatic transmission, just like the M4.
It will get the larger coupe’s S58 engine, but we expect the engineers to tone down the 3.0 litre twin-turbo V-6. Although it’s larger and heavier than the original M4, the inline-six engine should still be able to produce up to 450 horsepower. Neither an M2 xDrive nor an M2 Competition version of the new M2 will be available at launch.
Only in BMW’s San Luis Potosi Plant in Mexico will the G87 M2 be produced. During the upcoming winter, production will begin, and shipping will begin in the spring of 2023.
However, some of us will get to shoot the car this month, and the press drives are still set for next Spring. Don’t miss out on any of the special content we’ll be uploading to our YouTube channel, and make sure to subscribe today!
2023 BMW M2 Design
Although the new M2 won’t be revealed until later this year, the camouflaged photographs show a smaller and stubbier version of the BMW double kidneys than on the M3 and M4. An array of optional extras will further improve the M2.
Lightweight and delivering torsional rigidity thanks to its carbon roof, the new BMW M2 also offers optional M carbon bucket seats for the driver and passenger.
The M2 maintains the same size of wheels as before, 19 inches, but the design expected to change. Although details about the M2’s interior remain classified, these photos show that the sports car will feature a digital display like the newest BMWs.
When Is The Launch?
The 2023 M2 will debut on October 11 (12 in Europe), as reported by bmwblog. BMW’s San Luis Potosi Plant in Mexico will begin manufacturing the M-badged coupe. The sports coupe should begin shipping in the spring of next year.
We have no idea if the coupe will include BMW xDrive. The M2 is only going to be available in a rear-wheel drive configuration, that much is certain. The 2023 BMW M2 is a gift to all aficionados, as it will include a tiny luxury design along with the exhilarating engine seen in the M4.
Engine Specifications & Performance:
It expected that the 2023 BMW M2’s 3.0-litre inline-six engine will produce more than 450 horsepower. We anticipate that the vehicle will adopt the idea of the M4, which prioritises a small footprint and a lightweight powertrain. combined with a rear-wheel-drive manual 6-speed transmission.

Its top speed was 155 mph, and it could reach 60 mph in less than four seconds. In the coming years, we also anticipate the release of a more powerful and exciting CS/or CSL. Added design enhancements for the M2 include a lower chassis with tuned suspensions, a wider track, and a set of quad exhausts mounted in the centre.
